MISSION STATEMENT

CJMP is a listener-supported community radio station. As a non-profit alternative to mainstream media, we engage, educate, entertain, challenge, and provide community access to the airwaves.

VISION

An informed, creative, active and open community with CJMP-FM as its hub.

PURPOSES

To enhance community dialogue and involvement, through facilitating the sharing of information, ideas, and artistic expression. To provide the community with a responsible, independent and viable forum for neglected perspectives and discussions on important local, national and global issues, especially reflecting the values of peace, social, economic and environmental justice, human rights, democracy, multiculturalism, and freedom of expression. To disseminate information to the community in case of emergency.

PRINCIPLES

We’re different: We are committed to producing programs that are different in style and substance from conventional for-profit radio stations. We reflect the community: We actively participate in and reflect the artistic, cultural, social and political life of our listening communities. We set the bar high: We endeavor to promote and maintain the highest level of journalistic and broadcasting excellence at all times. We’re diverse: We broadcast a wide range of views, respecting our listeners’ interest in and willingness to consider competing ideas

VALUES

Learning: CJMP allows our community to gain real-world experience that will help them achieve their objectives; mistakes are not viewed negatively, but are seen as chances to learn and improve. We will learn and grow together — with our community — and change with the times.

Quality: CJMP expects the best from our volunteers and staff, on-air and off. We treat every minute of airtime and station event as a chance to give our community the best we have to offer. Everything we do reflects not only the hard work and dedication of our staff, but also community standards.

Integrity: CJMP holds true to its ideals and mission. All actions that the station takes are in the best interest of our listener-ship and the wider community. CJMP especially supports local causes, businesses, groups, and individuals that are just and worth supporting. We reserve to right to selective advertising and sponsorships.

Independence and Equality: CJMP is operated by volunteers. CJMP offers programming that is not available anywhere else. CJMP makes decisions not based on trends, but on the outcome for our staff, members, and community. We will not ignore our community’s needs or otherwise diminish our integrity for any reason. We value and are dedicated to maintaining equality and the right to free speech, while adhering to values of non-discrimination based on race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, gender, sexual orientation or identity, age or mental or physical disability.
